Attorney Alexander named to bar Board of Governors

Mark Alexander, an attorney and partner with Stewart Melvin & Frost of Gainesville, has been elected to the State Bar of Georgia’s Board of Governors.

Alexander is one of two board members elected by attorneys from the Northeastern Circuit, which includes Hall and Dawson counties.

“It is truly a great honor to be elected by my peers to the Board of Governors,” Alexander said. “As a board member, I want to focus on improving the image of attorneys. Being an attorney is a noble profession and I intend to highlight the positive aspects of the role we play throughout our judicial system.”

The Board of Governors comprises 148 members elected to two-year terms from each of Georgia’s 49 judicial circuits, plus the Attorney General of Georgia and three appointed members. The board controls and administers the affairs of the State Bar.

Alexander has practiced law over 20 years and has served as president of the Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association. He specializes in personal injury, wrongful death and other litigation.

SBDC schedules classes for small business June 6

The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center’s Gainesville Area Office will offer a free Starting a Business: Q&A class from 5-7 p.m. June 6 at Featherbone Communiversity, 999 Chestnut St., Gainesville. Pre-registration is required.

Topics for discussion include market research, choices of legal structure for your business, startup cost estimates, cash flow estimation, financing alternatives, failure factors, and business planning. There will also be time allotted for specific questions from participants.
