Joy Messerschmidt of Gainesville has been given a full tuition scholarship plus a paid teaching assistantship to the Applied Medical Anthropology Phd Program for the fall of 2012 at the University of Connecticut.

Stephanie Sayler, a student at Armstrong Atlantic State University from Gainesville, received the Dr. Stu Worthington Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Psychology Student, the Bhatia Foundation Award and the Silver A for Academics.

Jennifer Bulley of Gainesville has earned dean’s list status for the recently ended winter 2012 term at Washington and Lee University. Dean’s list status represents a term grade-average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Megan Reed of Flowery Branch graduated from Marlboro College in Marlboro, Vt., with a B.A. in Languages.

Grace Ryan, a kindergarten student at Chestnut Mountain Elementary School and Dakota Smith, a kindergarten student at Oakwood Elementary School won first and second place in the Math Awareness Month Data Story Competition for K-1 students in the Hall County school system.

The contest was to celebrate and recognize Math Awareness using data and graphs for eye-catching appeal, visual attractiveness, and ability to draw the viewer to investigate the individual graphs.

Kristine Pryor from Buford, graduated from Concordia University in Portland, Ore., at its commencement ceremony May 5. Pryor received a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction.

North Hall High School senior Rachel Glazer was awarded first place in the Optimist International Oratorical District (State) Competition, held in Macon. This is the fourth and final tier of the annual speech scholarship contest. Glazer, who plans to enroll in North Georgia College & State University’s 2013 Honors Program, received a $2,500 scholarship.
