ROCHESTER, NY –The Gwinnett Braves scored two runs in the first inning and rode the solid pitching of Todd Redmond and Cory Gearrin to a 2-1 win over the Rochester Red Wings in game two of the four game series Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY.

In top of the first, with two outs and the bases empty Stefan Gartrell smacked a solo homer to center field off of Red Wings starter Luke French to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead. Ernesto Mejia followed with a double to left to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Mejia scored from second as the next batter, Drew Sutton doubled past the first-base bag for a 2-0 lead.

Redmond got into trouble in the bottom of the first, giving up a lead-off double to Clete Thomas. Pedro Florimon bunted Thomas to third, and former G-Brave Wilkin Ramirez continued his hot hitting with an RBI single to left cutting the Gwinnett lead to 2-1.

Both teams failed to score the rest of the way.

Gwinnett had opportunities to add to the lead in many innings, putting runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth innings. However, the G-Braves ended the game 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

Redmond (W, 4-3) earned his second win of the road trip. He pitched seven innings, allowing a run on five hits, walked none and struck out three. Gearrin (S, 3) pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth with one walk and four strikeouts.
