Local golf: Sutton finishes 1st at Chattahoochee

The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played its monthly individual flighted strokes competition Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Bill Sutton finished in first place for the White Tee Flight, Gene Weschler and Dick Bachman tied for second, Billy Shrader came in fourth and Butch Teston finished fifth.

Joe Kolesar and Ed Pledger tied for first place in the Gold Tee First Flight, Richard McClure came in third, and Bob Allen, Chuck Keith and Don Gage all tied for fourth.

Bud Clegg captured first place in the Gold Tee Second Flight, Gary Palmer came in second, Carlyle Cox and Clay Bartlett tied for third, and Bob Pyne and Jim Carroll tied for fifth.

Bob Watson finished in first place in the Gold Tee Third Flight, Ben Brooks came in second, Nick Grillo and Ken Uyl tied for third and Larry Jewett finished fifth. Closest to the pin winners were Harry Barnett (No. 3), Clegg (No. 5), Gage (No. 12) and Watson (No. 17).

DPG: The Dedicated Players Group played matches on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Dennis Jones finished in first place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and Denis Jordan finished in second place on Monday.

Jerry Shell came in second place on Wednesday, and Charley Kilby, Bob Kidd and James Roberts all tied for third. Kidd finished in second on Friday, and Norm Phillips and Al Crego tied for third.

LUNA’S TUESDAY: The Luna’s Tuesday golf group played at Chattahoochee this week.

First place went to the team of Phil Rothermel. Stan Davidson Jr, Doug Van and Don Rogers. Second place went to the team of Cleve Brown, Nelson Wright, Joe Roberts, and Larry Miller. Third place went to the team of Ken Chahoy, Tommy Lowery, Gene Weschler, and Johnny Nix. Closest to the pin winners were Brown (No. 3), Wright (No. 5), Miller (No. 12), and Chahoy (No. 17).

CLGA: The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a Team Texas Scramble event on Tuesday at Chattahoochee. The team of Ann Hollobaugh, Nora Gleason and Riki Von Stroud took first place, and the team of Beulah Land, Martha Shell and Judy Pannell came in second. Closest to the pin winners were Jackie Somerville (No. 3) and Hollobaugh (No. 17).
