North Hall Middle School’s seventh-grade health class received a Health Certificate of Achievement from the Georgia School Nutrition Association for its win in the statewide Move it Challenge. Students wrote a poem or essay about being healthier and then the class chose the best three for competition. They were recognized at UGA with Coach Mark Richt at a dinner in the athletic dining facilities.

 

 

Middle school students attending The Da Vinci Academy have more than 60 pieces of art on display at Gallerie 110, 224 S. Main St., just off the square in downtown Gainesville. The exhibition will be shown through May 24. The Da Vinci exhibition includes photography, sculptures, paintings, pencil drawings, pen and ink drawings, and fabric art.

 

At the reception held in honor and the following ribbons were awarded:

 

First place: Claire Kelley for "Regal," fabric art

 

Second place: Scottie Manzo for "Running Man," wire sculpture

 

Third place: Jordan Hoffman for "Exotic Print," pen and ink

 

 

Paran Fisch, daughter of Buddy and Angie Fisch of Gainesville, was awarded the Clark Medal by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at North Georgia College & State University.

Each year the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science select a recipient, based on mathematical ability and performance from among those students who have completed the calculus sequence and two courses at the 3000-4000 level. Paran was a 2009 NHHS graduate; she will graduate in 2013 from North Georgia.

 

Charles Phelps of Gainesville was recently inducted into Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society at Reinhardt University. The membership in Lambda Pi Eta is composed of undergraduate students who have declared an interest in the field of communication and have achieved a high level of academic excellence.
