Namhee Kwak of Gainesville has received the Burroughs Welcome Scholarship Award. Kwak is a fifth-year student in Northeastern University’s Bouve College of Health Sciences’ pharmacy program. This award is presented annually to recognize undergraduate students demonstrating excellence and financial need.

Charles (CJ) E. Wood Jr., recently graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. He is the son of Charles and Emma Wood Sr. and is a 2007 graduate of Gainesville High School.

Gainesville High School student Joshua Robinson has won a scholarship to study Chinese in China for six weeks this summer. The six-week scholarship is provided by the federal government to 25 students to study one of the critical strategic languages such as Chinese, Arabic and Russian in the native speaking country.

Morgan Copeland and Caroline Coleman from North Hall High School recently participated in the fourth annual Shuler Hensley High School Musical Theater Awards as members of the Shuler Student Ensemble. The Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards included 42 high schools from 12 counties, representing 14 school districts as well as private schools in the greater Atlanta region. The highlight of the show was a cameo appearance by Tony-award winner Hensley, including appearances with members of the Shuler Student Ensemble representing the schools participating in this year’s competition.
