Falcons sign Biermann

FLOWERY BRANCH – The Atlanta Falcons today signed fifth round (154th overall) draft selection, defensive end Kroy Biermann to a four-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Biermann, 6-3, 241 pounds, played in 52 career games at the University of Montana and totaled 220 tackles, 32 sacks (the second most in school history), 45 tackles for loss, nine forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

He was named the 2007 Big Sky Conference Defensive MVP after collecting 70 tackles, 15 sacks and 18 tackles for loss in his senior campaign.

Last season, Biermann became Montana’s first-ever recipient of the Buck Buchanan Award which is given annually by the Sports Network to the top defensive player in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision. Biermann is the eighth of 11 draft picks to be signed by the Falcons prior to the team’s training camp. Other draft picks who have signed include: quarterback Matt Ryan (first round, 3rd overall), cornerback Chevis Jackson (third round, 68th overall), wide receiver Harry Douglas (third round, 84th overall), safety Thomas DeCoud (third round, 98th overall), running back Thomas Brown (sixth round, 172nd overall), cornerback Wilrey Fontenot (seventh round, 212th overall) and tight end Keith Zinger (seventh round, 232nd overall)
