G-Braves score four runs in the fifth to top Toledo

POSTED: April 28, 2012 9:52 p.m.

The Triple-A Gwinnett Braves broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the top of the fifth and beat the Toledo Mud Hens 8-3 in game two of the four game series on Saturday night at Fifth-Third Field in Toledo, Ohio.

The G-Braves opened the scoring early, as Drew Sutton reached on a fielding error in the top of the first with two outs. Ernesto Mejia followed with a two-run homer to left, his third blast of the season, to open up a 2-0 lead.

Gwinnett added a run in the top of the second to go up 3-0 as Jose Yepez singled to left scoring Joey Terdoslavich from second.

Terdoslavich led off the inning with a single to center field and moved to second on a single by Josh Wilson.

However, G-Braves’ starting pitcher Todd Redmond would give up one run in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the third as the Mud Hens tied the game at three. Redmond then would settle down and retire 11 in a row before being lifted after six innings.

The big four-run fifth inning for the Braves started with a lead-off single to right by Jose Constanza.  He moved to second on a throwing error; and Luis Durango walked to put two on with no one out.

Stefan Gartrell followed with a one-out double off the wall in left scoring both Constanza and Durango, giving Gwinnett a 5-3 lead.

Toledo pulled starting pitcher Shawn Teufel in favor of right-handed reliever Brooks Brown.
