Escobar injures shoulder, Infante hurts hamstring

POSTED: June 29, 2008 5:02 a.m.

ATLANTA — Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar was held out of Wednesday's starting lineup against Milwaukee after jamming his left shoulder the previous night and his replacement, Omar Infante, came out of the game because of a strained right hamstring.

Rookie shortstop Brent Lillibridge entered as a pinch runner after Infante got hurt while running out a double in the second inning. Infante grabbed the back of his right thigh after crossing first base and then limped into second.

Atlanta said Infante was day to day.

The Braves were scheduled to be off on Thursday, and manager Bobby Cox said Escobar should be back in the lineup when the team opens a series at Toronto on Friday.

Escobar was injured Tuesday night when he tried to dive back to first base and was tagged out by first baseman Price Fielder on Kelly Johnson's line drive. Escobar threw his helmet and was thrown out of the game by first-base umpire Eric Cooper.

Escobar had missed starting the previous three games because of a strained right hip flexor.

Escobar was removed from the starting lineup Wednesday after he was unable to take batting practice due to the sore shoulder.

Infante, who was in the lineup at third base as Chipper Jones missed his fifth straight start with a strained right quadriceps, moved to shortstop. Ruben Gotay started at third base.
