Volleyball: Jubilee protects its house

POSTED: October 25, 2007 10:24 a.m.

Jubilee Christian Academy defended its home turf and its Georgia Christian Athletic Association volleyball state championship Saturday, closing out Lake Dow Christian (25-8, 25-16, 25-21) in Gainesville. After falling in the Class A finals in 2004 and 2005, this is the school’s second state title.

Senior Haley Frantzreb ended the final game with a jump-serve ace. Haley, along with her twin sister Brittany, earned co-MVP honors. In the three-day tournament Brittany tallied 35 kills, 25 digs, 13 aces and 10 blocks, while Haley notched 66 assists and 13 aces.

Lady Stallions coach Randy Roys said the team got significant contributions from all six starters and libero Kaylin Walden, and credited Kristen Woodall’s net play as a deciding factor in the second game.

Woodall finished the tournament with 19 blocks, 13 aces and 12 kills, and freshman Olivia Szatkowski had 18 kills and nine digs.

Jubilee Christian (44-4) travels to Marietta on Tuesday to play North Cobb Christian before heading to a national invitational tournament in Dayton, Tenn., later this month.
