Shooting victim dies; 2 suspects sought

POSTED: April 13, 2012 11:30 p.m.

Thursday’s shooting outside a processing plant on Memorial Park Drive turned into a homicide when the victim died overnight.

The man, identified as David Sanchez, 46, of Gainesville, died at Northeast Georgia Medical Center late Thursday night.

Sgt. Kiley Sargent with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said at least two Hispanic men approached Sanchez and a woman as they drove into the parking lot of Victory Processing at 2080 Industrial Drive in Gainesville.

The suspects forced the victims out of their car and then multiple shots were fired, authorities said.

Sanchez was critically injured and taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The woman was uninjured.

The suspects then stole the victim’s champagne-colored 2009 Nissan Murano and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

The vehicle was found a short distance away from the scene.

Sargent said the victim was in the check-cashing business.

“They were there at Victory Processing to cash employees’ checks,” he said. “... It’s something that they normally do.”

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Woodrow Tripp said it appears the two victims were targeted.

“We do feel confident that it wasn’t a random act a violence,” Sargent said. “I don’t feel like the general public should worry about a random gunman.”

Investigators working on profiles of the suspects, and anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 770-531-6879 or 770-536-8812.
