Jefferson woman found dead in freezer

Police are calling her death "suspicious"

Jefferson police are investigating the "suspicious death" of a Jackson County woman found dead in a freezer.

Billie Welty was discovered in a box freezer with the top open in her home by a family member Sunday afternoon.

Autopsy results are not yet available, but Jefferson Police Chief Joe Wirthman said the woman’s death was suspicious.

Police are currently working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and treating the case as though foul play was involved until they can determine the cause of death.
