Your Views: Americans still divided despite our best efforts

POSTED: April 12, 2012 1:00 a.m.

Regarding the March 28 letter, “Pastors, protesters play race card in Fla. shooting” by Paul Barnes: Some of the information appears to be truthful. However, in my opinion, he has failed to grasp the true significance of this unfortunate incident.

All is not lost. No doubt every enemy of the U.S. be they communist, socialist, liberation theologian or whatever are jumping for joy over the ignorance of the people involved in the demonstrations and divisive rhetoric.

Contrary to popular belief the phrase, “United we stand and divided we fall” did not originate with President Abraham Lincoln. Brother Abe simply paraphrased this universal truth spoken by Jesus recorded in Matthew 12:25: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.”

Practically every aspect of the American way of life is under attack and being destroyed in every way possible. Even during my short lifetime, I have seen many facets of the American way diluted or divided into oblivion, all in the name of fairness and equality.

Wake up people! America is not a land of fairness and equality. Based upon Scripture and secular observation, America appears to be the last attempt that God is making to show that mankind cannot correct the political and religious divisions that have occurred while men slept.

Finally, the vilest division in America is Christianity. If there ever was a divided people, it’s the so-called Christian church. Jesus said that the gates of hell would not prevail against his church. No such provisions were made for man’s church. Check it out! There is not unity to speak of in contemporary Christendom.

Only true unity exists among members of the body of Christ. Unfortunately because of laziness and bad pulpit preaching/teaching, most members do not recognize their true unity in Christ.
