Insonnia to play the 2012 Cork & Keg Festival

POSTED: April 5, 2012 1:30 a.m.

Don’t miss the chance to sample some of best North Georgia has to offer. Not arts, not crafts and not music, though there will be plenty of that. We’re talking brews.

The White County Cork & Keg Festival will offer a big variety of the nation’s best craft-brewed beers and a selection of fine wines from 2:30-5:30 p.m. April 7.

The Helen Festhalle, with a biergarten right on the Chattahoochee River, will again be the site for this tasty event that benefits the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association.

More than 45 varieties of artisanal beer will be available for unlimited tasting, along with more than a dozen wines. Bottles of wine will be available for sale, as well.

Admission includes one small plate from two of the regional restaurants: the Nacoochee Tavern and Bigg Daddy’s, with more food available for purchase.

Local winemakers will be on hand to discuss their vintages, and brewers will offer insights into their craft. Every ticket buyer gets a commemorative glass, courtesy of Sweetwater Brewing Company, which will have their freshest seasonal brew on tap.

Entertainment by Insonnia will be one of the highlights. Led by guitarist Curtis Jones, whose compositions are centered around the passion of the Spanish guitar, the group blends a contemporary sound to a traditional art form by combining Flamenco, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban and Jazz to create a sound all its own.

Admission is limited to the first 400 ticket buyers, who must be at least 21 with identification. Designated drivers are admitted free.

All proceeds from the event go to support the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association, a nonprofit organization committed to arts and culture, environmental protection and historic preservation, located four miles east of the Festhalle, just off Ga. 17.
