Carter's to create 1,000 jobs in Braselton by 2015

POSTED: April 4, 2012 11:02 p.m.

Braselton will soon be home to 600 of Georgia’s newest jobs.

Carter’s Inc., a well known brand of children’s clothing, is expected to move into Braselton in June, using an existing 1 million-square-foot facility as a distribution center for its e-commerce, retail and wholesale businesses.

The move will immediately create 250 new jobs in Georgia. By 2015, the company hopes to employ 1,000 people in Braselton, 600 of which will be jobs that are new to the state.

More than 200 of those jobs will be relocated from a Hogansville facility, which a company official said will close in the next year and a half.

Carter’s Inc. is headquartered in Atlanta. The company owns the Carter’s and OshKosh B’gosh brands, which are sold in more than 40 countries.

“Carter’s new distribution center will have an immediate, positive impact on the lives of Jackson County residents,” said Gov. Nathan Deal in a statement. “Encouraging job growth in the state is of the utmost importance, and we are pleased Carter’s has chosen to invest in Georgia and its workforce.”

The company’s decision to expand to Braselton is due in part to the company’s growth, said Greg Foglesong, senior vice president of marketing and e-commerce.

“We quite simply have outgrown our current distribution centers,” Foglesong said.

The company has chosen a facility at 625 Braselton Parkway, which until late last year was occupied by Progressive Lighting, said Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Director of Economic Development Courtney Bernardi.

Initially, the Jackson County facility will support Carter’s e-commerce business, but Carter’s plans to expand, investing some $50 million in the Braselton distribution center, adding its retail and wholesale businesses to the center’s operations, Foglesong said.

The company will begin its hiring process in early May to fill the initial positions in operations, engineering, inventory control, human resources and additional support roles.

It plans to hold a job fair May 9-12 at the new facility.
