Elachee Nature Science Center, in conjunction with the Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources and The University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service, will offer the Georgia Master Naturalist Program beginning April 5.

Elachee staff and invited expert speakers will be part of a hands-on program that explores habitats and ecosystems in Georgia. The weekly program is a combination of lectures and outside learning that serves to connect people with nature and help them become engaged environmental stewards.

Topics explored in the program will include geology, tree identification, wildflower and plant identification, animals and habitats, birds and migration, amphibians and reptiles, natural resource management, exotic invasive plants, astronomy, mountain ecology, stream ecology, and mushroom identification.

Classes will be held Thursdays from 1-5:30 p.m. beginning April 5 and concluding June 14. One full-day field trip is included as part of the schedule. The program fee of $160 covers all 11 sessions, the field trip and materials. All participants in the program must be age 18 or older.

For more information on the program, or to register, go to www.elachee.org or call 770-535-1976.
