POSTED: March 15, 2012 12:20 a.m.

Seven decades after it was released, "Casablanca" remains popular among movie lovers as time goes by.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of its 1942 release, the classic World War II love story will be screened at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Arrendale Amphitheater on the Piedmont College campus in Demorest.

Considered by movie buffs as one of the greatest films ever, "Casablanca," stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. It earned eight Academy Award nominations and won three Oscars.

The film also features many of the best known character actors of the age, including Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre. It also includes memorable dialogue, from "Here's looking at you, kid," to "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine," and of course, "Play it, Sam. Play ‘As Time Goes By.'"

The Arrendale Amphitheater is adjacent to the Swanson Center for Performing Arts and Communications on College Drive. It features open-air stadium seating with room for folding chairs, cushions and coolers (no alcoholic beverages allowed). Concessions also will be available.

Admission is $3, free for Piedmont students, faculty and staff. If there is inclement weather, the film will be shown in the Swanson Center Screening Room.
