The Buford Lady Wolves softball team traveled to Henry County on Monday and came away with a 15-3 win in a six inning game.

Lexi Overstreet hit a three-run home run as well as a double to go with her three RBIs and three runs scored for Buford.

The Lady Wolves’ Noah Suddereth and Kallie Case went 2 for 3 with solo home runs, doubles and three RBIs.

Jordan Deet and Kodi Ricketson each went 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Buford (13-6) travels for a game with Greater Atlanta Christian at 5:30 p.m. today.

FLOWERY BRANCH WINS FOUR GAMES: The Lady Falcons went 4-2 in the Buford Invitational last week with wins over Jefferson, Union County, West Forsyth and Dunwoody.

The Lady Falcons scored 34 runs in six games.

Flowery Branch will participate in the North Fall Classic at North Georgia College this week. The Lady Falcons host Loganville today.

Freshman Kelly Kahlert and senior Caitlin Fowler were named Region 8-AAAA players of the month for August.

LADY PANTHERS FINISH WEEKEND PERFECT: The Jackson County softball team participated in the Veteran’s Memorial Tournament hosted by North Oconee in Watkinsville.

The Lady Panthers finished the tournament undefeated by winning all five games, beating Stephens County 5-4, Tattnall County 9-0, George Walton Academy 6-0, South Effingham 4-0 and Tombs County 4-0.

The leading pitchers on the weekend were Haley Shinall, who won three games and struck out 22, and Kortnee Satterfield, who won twice and had eight strikeouts for Jackson County.

Madison Whitmire led the Lady Panthers offensively with three home runs and seven RBIs on the weekend.
Jackson County (14-3) will play twice at home this week, Tuesday against Oglethorpe and Thursday against Hart County.

Cross Country

The Jefferson boys cross country won the Mountain Eagle Invitational on Saturday while the Lady Dragons finished in third place in Clarkesville.

The White County Lady Warriors won the girls division.

Both Buford teams finished in second place in the race, while the Habersham Central boys team finished fourth.

Individually, Buford’s Dylan Price finished in 18 minutes, 34 seconds to take second place in the boys division. Trae Timmerman of Jefferson finished with a time of 18:47 in third place and teammate Kyle Kashuba ran the race in 18:59 to finish fifth.

In the girls division Jessie Dotson of White County won with a time of 20:54 and teammate Kristen Mitchell finished at 22:19 in third place.

Coming in second place was Jefferson’s Reese Bowles with a time of 22:08.

Two Lady Wolves rounded out the top five, Lane Crawford and Bailey Roberts who finished in fourth and fifth with times of 22:29 and 24:13, respectively.

Volleyball

LADY CHARGERS WIN AGAIN: North Georgia Christian beat Heritage Christian Academy at home on Monday.

The Lady Chargers won 28-26, 16-25, 25-15, 26-28, and 15-9. North Georgia Christian plays again at 5 p.m. Thursday against Cumberland Christian.

JOHNSON WINS 4 IN SPIKEFEST: The Lady Knights went 4-1 on Saturday and won the championship for the silver bracket on Saturday at the East Hall Spikefest.

Johnson had wins over Morgan County, Lumpkin County, Chestatee and East Hall.

Savannah Turk led the Lady Knights with nine kills, six aces and 21 digs on the day. Linsey Anderson had a team high 11 kills to go along with Kelly Chance’s nine aces and 18 assists for Johnson.

The Lady Knights (9-10, 1-3 Region 8-AAA) play Monroe Area and Chestatee at Chestatee at 6 p.m. today.

EAST HALL TAKES THREE: Brittney Cambell had nine aces, five kills, 72 assists and nine digs for the Lady Vikings in matches against Chestatee (25-12,25-21), Athens Christian (25-10, 25-12) and Morgan County (25-20, 25-15) at the East Hall Spikefest on Saturday.

With the three victories East Hall (16-16) set a record for wins in a season.

Tarryn Ling had nine aces, 39 kills, three assists and 19 digs for the Lady Vikings.

East Hall’s Latisha Shelton added four aces, seven kills, three assists, 12 blocks and 64 digs.

The Lady Vikings play next at 5 p.m. at Winder Barrow on Tuesday.
