Eighth-graders at West Hall Middle School participated in mock interviews with volunteers form the community. This career unit, which matches the Georgia Performance Standards, was the brainchild of eighth-grade reading teacher Marlene Galvin. The project helped students learn vocabulary related to the job search process, create resumes and learn interview etiquette. Then, each student was interviewed as though the interviewer was a representative of the field that matched the student's career interest.

Gainesville State College's Rho Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa celebrated the induction of 62 new members on March 26. This is the largest number of new members ever for a spring semester. Phi Theta Kappa is an honors society recognizing excellence at two-year colleges. Membership is based primarily upon academic achievement. Members must have completed at least 25 hours of course work toward an associate degree program, have a grade point average of at least 3.6 and be a U.S. citizen. New members include Linda Allemani, Daniel Arrington, Stephanie Coe, Richard Hebert III, Justin Lance, Kenneth Lyon, Tabitha Lyon, Mary Rose Patterson, Kristina Rail, Brianna Reiner and Emily Stocking of Gainesville; Steven Bagley, Sterling Baldwin, Dana Barton, Terri Milburn, Adora Okeke, Rochee Richardson and Bethany Sanders of Flowery Branch; Marius Balla and Tracy Storck of Buford; Heather Bearden of Dawsonville; Cynthia Boswell of Jefferson; Ashley Cooper, Heidi Croft, William Illg, Juan Lianes, Stephen Reszetylo and Kelly Symmes of Cumming; April Jones of Cleveland; Tracie Jones of Hoschton; Brady Moon of Commerce; Kristina Robertson of Mount Airy; Pamela Spell of Clermont; and Alessandrina Val Preda of Braselton.
