The passing of a family member is never easy, and the estate battles that follow often make the grieving process even harder to deal with.

But the Georgia Mountain Players are putting a comedic spin on the sometimes contentious situation.

The Players are preparing to perform the classic play "Where There’s A Will, There’s A Relative" over the next two weekends.

Managing artistic director for the Players Mike Martin said the play is popular, and the group has gotten a good amount of feedback from people anticipating the opening.

"It’s a wonderfully funny play. When we first read it we said ‘this is something we have to do.’ We’re always looking for works that are appropriate for the whole family," Martin said.

"Where There’s A Will" is the tale of wealthy entrepreneur Sam Price’s passing, and the effect it has on those he leaves behind.

Price’s family has gathered at his townhouse and the grieving is in full swing. However, it doesn’t take the group long to begin pondering inheritance and even what the old man might have left around the house.

Martin said the family starts to discuss who was supposed to get what, and before long everyone is laying claim to anything they can.

"It’s a humorous look at how sometimes things really are. Everyone gets along until a relative passes, and then the arguments start," Martin said.

"Where There’s A Will, There’s A Relative" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and Feb. 23-24, with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Feb. 25. It will be performed at the Georgia Mountains Center, located at 301 Main St. in Gainesville.

Tickets are available at the Georgia Mountains Center Box Office or phone at 770-534-8420. Prices are $17 for adults and $13 for seniors, students and children.
