4 area schools finish in top 10 of Directors Cup

North Hall and Flowery Branch high schools were ackowledged for their success in sports this school year by finishing in the top 10 for Class AAA of the 2007-08 Georgia Athletic Directors Associaton’s Dodge Directors Cup.

The award, which started in 2000, is given to the top overall high school athletic programs in the state based on points earned at the GHSA state playoffs and championships.

North Hall, which finished with 383.33 points, had a strong athletic season which started with its football team reaching the Class AAA state semifinals and culminated with its girls soccer team reaching the Class AA state semifinals. Flowery Branch (350), led by a state quarterfinals run by the boys basketball team, a semifinal run by the boys soccer team, and a No. 1 ranking by the baseball team, finished tied with Chamblee for eighth place. Region 5-AAA’s Westminster (986.66) and Blessed Trinity (720) finished first and second respectively.

In Class AA, Buford finished in seventh place with 380 points. Wesleyan, which won three state titles this year, finished in first place with 1130 points.

In Class A, Jefferson finished tied with Gordon Lee and Athens Academy for fifth place with 440 points. The Dragons won a state title in wrestling and had strong postseason runs in baseball and boys basketball. The Class A Directors Cup was won by Brookstone.
