Thanksgiving service set for First Presbyterian

POSTED: November 17, 2011 12:30 a.m.

Thanksgiving is coming a little early to First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.

At 6 p.m. Nov. 20, the church at 800 South Enota Drive will host the Community Thanksgiving Service sponsored by the Gainesville Ministerial Alliance.

The service is open to the public and is supported by First Baptist, First United Methodist, First Presbyterian, Grace Episcopal and St. Paul United Methodist churches.

The annual Thanksgiving service rotates between local churches from year to year. Each of the ministers in the alliance will have a part in the service.

The guest speaker will be Will Willimon, bishop of the United Methodist Church. Willimon has been the presiding bishop of the Birmingham area of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church since 2004. For 20 years, he served as Duke University's Dean of the Chapel and a professor of Christian Ministry.

Although the program is free, an offering will be taken to support the Gainesville Action Ministries.
