Fire guts empty house in North Hall

POSTED: June 4, 2008 5:02 a.m.

A vacant home was nearly destroyed by fire in the early hours of the weekend.

No one was living in the one-story house on the 6400 block of Ransom Free Road when it caught fire early Saturday morning, Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said.

Hall County firefighters arrived at the North Hall home shortly after 4 a.m. to find about 75 percent of it was on fire, Kimbrell said.

However, Kimbrell said the 3,000-square-foot home, which suffered about $240,000 in damage, had not been totally lost to the fire.

"The walls are still standing, but it's pretty much gutted," Kimbrell said.

There were a few pieces of furniture that burned in the house and there was a for sale sign in the yard, but Kimbrell said the owners had already moved to the Savannah area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Kimbrell said electricity was on in the house at the time of the fire, and investigators had not ruled out the possibility of an electrical fire or possible arson as of Saturday afternoon.
