Attendees of a recent Lakeshore Squares Can-Can square dance generously donated money, canned and boxed goods to highlight the Can-A-Thon event benefitting Good News At Noon at 979 Davis St., Gainesville.

Additionally, the club donated $150, raising the cash donations to $284.

The Good News at Noon ministry provides a variety of services to families and homeless in the Gainesville area. The ministry can be contacted at 770-503-1366.

 

At an October Gainesville City Council meeting, the Lyman Hall Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, presented a Fire Safety Commendation Medal to Deputy Fire Chief Jerome Yarborough of the Gainesville Fire Department.

The Fire Safety Commendation Medal is presented to an individual for accomplishments or outstanding contributions in the area of fire safety and service.
Yarborough has a long history of service to his country and community. He is a 27-year veteran of the fire department and served as fire marshal for more than 10 years.

He served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and has been actively involved in Safe Kids, Boys & Girls Clubs and volunteer football coach for Gainesville Parks and Recreation.

The chapter also received a proclamation from the council regarding Fire Safety Week and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

 

The Fraternal Order of Eagles recently donated proceeds from a fundraiser to the general funds of both the Gainesville Fire and Police departments. The Eagles are an organization of "people helping people" and are credited with the founding of Mother's Day.
