If evangelist Billy Graham and comedian "Weird Al" Yankovic teamed up for a performance, it would come out something like an ApologetiX concert. At least the band seems to think that way.

The Christian band has been sharing their Biblical parodies of popular songs with audiences since 1992.

No one is off-limits. The band has created parodies of songs by everyone from Elvis to the rapper Eminem.

"We're not here to sanitize secular music. We just use secular music coupled with humor and irony through parody as a tool to reach and teach others, the same way political parodists have been using it for years to get their points across," said the band's lyricist J. Jackson, on their website.

They will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Gainesville Civic Center, 830 Green St. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

The band takes its name from the religious reference to "apologetics," which relates to the defense of Christianity.

Band members have turned songs like Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places" into scripture laced tune titled "Bends to Low Places."

In ApologetiX world, the Doobie Brother's "China Grove" is now "Dead and Rose," while The Beatles' "I Feel Fine" has become "In Matthew 9."

The concert is being presented by Eagle Watch Ministries, a local nonprofit missions organization and ministry.

According to Hal Lowder Jr., Eagle Watch director, the concert isn't a fundraiser - it's an opportunity for folks to have a good time.
