Incumbents win in Lula, Clermont council races

POSTED: November 8, 2011 10:52 p.m.

Two incumbents in Clermont and one in Lula won re-election Tuesday night.

In Clermont, the winners were incumbent Seth Weaver, 31, who won a third term; incumbent John Brady, 63, who won a second full term; and Debra Armour, 49.

Top vote-getter Weaver, son of former mayor and council member Warren Weaver, said he was pleased with the turnout and is "looking forward to the next four years. ... I just got an interest in our little town."

Brady said he also was pleased with the election and thinks council members will be able to work together to improve the community. But the community has to get through these tight economic times, he said.

Armour said she is proud she will be serving the town and hopes to improve conditions for the youth and elderly.

Donna Reeves came in fourth.

In Lula, incumbent Larry Shuler defeated challenger Veneda Simonelli by a wide margin to win his third term on the City Council.

"I didn't do anything on the campaign," said Shuler, a retired 14-year resident.

Shuler said he ran on his eight-year record and added that residents evidently thought he has done a good job as part of a council that added more parks, including Veterans Park, to the community.

Simonelli previously said she wanted to get more involved in the city and filed for office when she thought Shuler wasn't seeking another term. She had no comment on Tuesday's outcome.
