Kicking off at 10 a.m. Saturday, the new Spout Springs Library will celebrate its grand opening with a host of festivities.

"This is something that has been long anticipated and waited for by the (residents) of South Hall," said Adrian Mixson, Hall County Library System director. "It’s going to be greatly appreciated by the community."

A few popular literary characters, including Clifford the Big Red Dog, Emily Elizabeth and Amelia Bedelia, will help jump-start the family activities. Kids will be able to enjoy face painting, balloon giveaways, craft activities, story times and a moon walk in addition to exploring a Hall County fire truck.

The library will also offer free food, snow cones and prize drawings leading up to the opening at 1 p.m.

Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle will deliver the keynote address, followed by remarks by state Rep. James Mills and Hall County Commission Chairman Tom Oliver.

Mixson said the library is plunging right into summer program offerings. He said in a couple of weeks the library will begin its vacation reading program, and hopes to soon provide courses on using the Internet and software programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.

From study rooms and public computer labs to a fairy tale-themed kids area, the library offers something for each age group, Mixson said.

Lisa McKinney, the organizer of the event, said she thinks the library’s state-of-the-art facilities will "wow" visitors.

"You just have to see it to believe it," she said.
