POSTED: October 27, 2011 12:30 a.m.

If you're in the market to buy a new book or two, you may want to visit a local book sale that lets your dollars do double duty.

Although the Giant Book Sale at 131 Bradford St., off the downtown Gainesville square features gently-used books, many of the titles may be new to you, and all proceeds will help three local organizations assist others.

The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 28-29, with a "fire sale" from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 30.

Entry over the weekend is free, but if you pay a $5 admission fee Oct. 27, you can participate in a preview sale from 6-9 p.m.

The sale will benefit Friends of the Hall County Library System, Our Neighbor and Next Chapter Bookstore.

Our Neighbor is a Gainesville-based nonprofit that provide independent-living opportunities to young adults with disabilities.

Next Chapter also assists individuals with disabilities by providing job training and experience. The shop is located at 118 Main St. in downtown Gainesville.

In addition to more than 35,000 hardback and paperback books, the sale will also include records and CDs. All of the materials have been sorted into categories.

According to organizers, with the exception of collectibles, everything else is less than $5. Cash, checks and credit cards all will be accepted.
