Karen Owens, facility manager for the East Hall Community Center, hoped to give the community a glimpse of the center’s offerings with an open house Monday.

The center opened last year, and Owens said the purpose of the event was "to get people familiarized with the new facility."

The community center, which is open to the general public, offers both indoor and outdoor facilities, including softball fields, tennis courts, an indoor walking track, two regulation-sized gymnasiums and a fitness area.

Since the center opened last September, it has been used in a variety of ways.

The East Hall middle school and high school girls basketball teams used the gyms for their practices during the fall. Activities such as aerobics and martial arts are also held at the center, as well as all sorts of events from banquets to family reunions.

Visitors to the fitness center can pay the daily fee of $3 or purchase monthly or annual membership, though all Hall County government employees get in for free with ID.

Owens said that the center has become a popular venue for holding birthday parties because the gym can be rented for kids to play games in after holding a celebration in the center’s activity room. Owens said kids and adults fill the center’s gymnasiums to play basketball on Wednesdays and Sundays during open gym days.

"We’re glad to be able to provide a place for (the kids) to be comfortable," Owens said. "It’s clean fun for them."

In addition to its ongoing activities, the community center will be offering a new lineup of programs during the summer months. These include Chicago-style line dancing, baton camp, and a cheer and dancing camp.

The East Hall Community Center is located at 3911 P. Davidson Road in Gainesville. The center is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
