Lt. gov host of bike ride for FCA

POSTED: October 13, 2011 12:30 a.m.

Cyclists looking for a good ride and a great cause can join Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle on Oct. 15 for the first Century Ride, hosted by Cagle and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

A variety of ride lengths are available, and money raised will support the FCA’s scholarship program and the lieutenant governor’s Greater Purpose charity, which helps economically challenged children of single parents.

The rides will start and end at Chestnut Mountain Church in Flowery Branch.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office will provide a support vehicle for each ride and minimal mechanical help also will be provided. Riders should carry seat bags with a tube, tool and pump. The event is estimated to end at about 4 p.m.

UnitedHealthcare’s Pro-Cycling team also will conduct bike safety lessons and obstacle courses for children. There will be a bike raffle and bike safety equipment giveaways as well. Thomas Dimitroff, general manager of the Atlanta Falcons, and Nathan O’Neill, eight-time Australian time trial champion also will be in attendance.

A silent auction to raise funds will include various autographed sporting equipment, jerseys and photos as well as a golf outing for four with Cagle and private lunch outing and tour of the Capitol for four, also with Cagle.
