History Center celebrates ‘Fruits of the Fall’

Family-related activities highlighted in Oct. 9 event

The Northeast Georgia History Center is turning its spotlight on "Fruits of the Fall" for its Family Day.

From 1-4 p.m. Oct. 9, the History Center has arranged for a number of fruit-related, family-fun activities. For the day, the focus will be on pumpkins and apples.

Throughout the day, there will be apple and pumpkin hands-on activities and products to sample. There will also be a contest for adults at 2 p.m. that day to see who can create the longest continuous apple peel.

Family Day at the History Center, 322 Academy St. NE, Gainesville, is free for everyone.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, the center will host a forum, "Pre-Historic Arty-facts: A Comparison of Stone Age Artifacts from Northeast Georgia and Kentucky."

The program will be presented by Joseph Johnson, an amateur archaeologist. Johnson will be sharing details from a few of his archaeological expeditions and displaying some of his findings.

Admission for this is event is free for history center members and $3 for all other visitors.
