Fans of Big Band music won't want to miss the Glenn Miller Orchestra performing at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 in Hodgson Concert Hall at the UGA Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $20 to $39 with discounts for UGA students.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra is under the direction of trombonist Gary Tole, who leads the orchestra in authentic performances from the glory days of the Big Band era.

Miller formed his original band in 1937 but never found success. The second Glenn Miller Orchestra, formed in March 1938, soon began breaking attendance records up and down the East Coast.

From 1938 to 1944, Miller's orchestra produced a string of Billboard hits that included "Pennsylvania 6-5000," "Tuxedo Junction," "In the Mood," "Stardust," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "(I've Got a Gal in) Kalamazoo," "A String of Pearls" and "That Old Black Magic." By 1940, the Glenn Miller Orchestra had topped all other bands in Down

Beat Magazine's Sweet Band Poll.

Miller was drafted into the Army in 1942 and organized the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. He died when his plane went down in the Atlantic in route to Paris in December 1944.

Tickets are available online or by calling 706-542-4400 or 888-289-8497.
