‘Rejected’ author to speak before Writers Group

McDevitt will share knowledge about writing, publishing works

POSTED: September 29, 2011 12:30 a.m.

As a published author, Jack McDevitt knows a thing or two about “How to Get Your Work Rejected.”

Next week, he’ll be sharing his aptly titled presentation with the Northeast Georgia Writers Group.

The presentation is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at Peach State Bank, 325 Washington St., Gainesville.

Admission is $25 per person and participants are required to register in advance.

“The attention-getting topic is actually the introduction for him to share his knowledge about writing and publishing with attendees,” said Lynda Holmes, vice president of the writers group.

McDevitt has written more than a dozen novels. His first novel, “The Hercules Text,” was published in the Ace Specials series and won the Philip K. Dick Special Award. His latest one, “Firebird,” will be available in bookstores in November.

He is also the author of several collections of short stories, including, “Ships in the night” and “Standard Candles.”

McDevitt’s presentation is open to the public, not just members of the writers group.

Northeast Georgia Writers is an organization designed “to foster good writing.” The group’s members meet monthly to share their work and to improve their writing skills with presentations from various guest speakers. The group also hosts an annual awards luncheon.
