Foothills 5K set for Sept. 24 in Clarkesville

POSTED: September 22, 2011 12:20 a.m.

The inaugural Run in the Foothills 5K road race, a 5-kilometer run/walk and one-mile fun run, is being held Sept. 24 at North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville.

Registration will start at 7 a.m., with the first racers starting at 8 a.m. The race is held conjunction with the Taste of Clarkesville festival. All proceeds will benefit Foothills Counseling Center.

"Runners and walkers will have three great opportunities with this run," said Joely Mixon, race organizer and board member of Foothills Counseling. "They get to experience the new Benjamin Purcell Trail at North Georgia Tech; they can satisfy the hunger they'll work up at the Taste of Clarkesville after the race; and they'll be helping ensure their friends and neighbors have access to affordable, professional counseling services."

The fee is $25. Refreshments will be available along with a limited number of T-shirts for early registrants.

Runners can register online at active.com, request a registration form from runinthefoothills@gmail.com, or pick up a registration form at Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church and several area businesses.
