Art teachers show their works at North Ga. exhibit

POSTED: September 15, 2011 12:20 a.m.

Two local high school art teachers will display their works at an exhibit opening Monday in Dahloenga.

"Appalachia Here and Now: Contemporary Works by Julie Hogan and Joseph Emery," runs Sept. 19 through Oct. 14 at the Library and Technology Center at North Georgia College & State University. It is free to the public.

The exhibit features contemporary paintings, sculptures and mixed media works by

Hogan, an art teacher at Lumpkin County High School, and Emery, an art teacher at Gainesville High.

"Appalachia Here and Now" attempts to show how North Georgia's diverse and rich cultural roots have infused area artists. Hogan's eight paintings and sculptures are abstract studies in color derived from light patterns in nature, while Emery's 10 works interpret the impact of war on our lives.

A reception is set for 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Library Lobby. The artists will discuss their works at 5:45 p.m. at Library Classroom 163.
