Teachers are not only professionals who need help from parents

POSTED: September 3, 2011 1:00 a.m.

As is my habit, I read Dr. John Rosemond's column Monday concerning homework with interest. I found myself in agreement with most of his notions, as is generally the case, but I must be missing something somewhere, as I am baffled by his assertion that he "know(s) of no other professional group (other than teachers) that expects others to help them with their job and not be paid for it."

That section of Dr. Rosemond's comments is curious, as it doesn't really speak to the home environment (the subject at hand), and I greatly doubt its accuracy. Surely he knows at least a few doctors, dentists, sheriffs and ministers, all very professional groups, who also rely upon parental help in pointing children in proper directions.
