Cleveland teen killed in wreck

18-year-old was passenger in truck that overturned

POSTED: May 18, 2008 5:01 a.m.
A Cleveland teenager was killed Tuesday night when the truck he was riding in overturned several times on Ga. 60 in Murrayville and came to rest on a guardrail.

According to Hall County deputy coroner John Abernathy, Adam Blake Anderson, 18, of Cleveland was dead at the scene of a wreck, which happened shortly before 8 p.m.

Abernathy said an autopsy has been performed, but results are not available.

Abernathy said that according to a report from Dr. Gerald Gowitt, Hall County’s medical examiner, Anderson died from blunt head and neck injuries.

According to Operator Donna Garrett with the Hall County post of the Georgia State Patrol, the driver of a 1997 Ford Ranger lost control while driving south on Ga. 60, causing the truck to overturn multiple times.

The vehicle came to rest on a guardrail on the east shoulder of the road.

Both the driver and the passenger, neither of whom was wearing a seat belt, were thrown from the vehicle, Garrett said.

The driver was taken via helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, but no information about the driver’s condition was available.

Garrett said the state patrol was notified of the wreck at 7:50 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 8:11 p.m. She said the patrol began its investigation of the scene Tuesday night.

Garrett said the report did not list any possible contributing factors for the wreck, explaining the investigation would determine the cause.

Abernathy said a toxicology report will be done. He explained that both the toxicology report and the autopsy are standard procedures in a fatal wreck.
