Master's paddlers take home titles at national championships

Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club masters paddler Jim O'Dell was part of six first-place finishes as the club won 14 national titles during the championships Sunday at Clarks Bridge Park on Lake Lanier.

O'Dell and Helen Elliot won the mixed K-2 (two-person kayak) 45-54-year-old race with a time of 2 minutes, 18.916 seconds. O'Dell, Elliott, Cheryl Smith and Lee Cole won the mixed K-4 in 2:07.74.

Cole, O'Dell, Jim Chaffin and Dave Haack finished first for the LCKC in the men's K-4 (2:15.46).

O'Dell also teamed for the win in the men's K-2 and men's K-4 (45-54).

Nancy Canupp and Helen Elliot placed first in the K-2 (45-49) in 3:25.33, and Canupp represented the LCKC in the women's winning K-4 team in the 45-54 range.

Individual winners for the LCKC included Chaffin in the men's K-1 novice (45+), Mike McCoy in the men's K-1 (65-69), and Jack Blendinger in the K-1 (75+).
