History shows discrimination is just wrong

POSTED: July 9, 2011 1:00 a.m.

I appreciated the article in the July 3 editon of The Times, "Christian leaders struggle with immigration law." I noted that one of the persons you quoted said, "Laws are important."

However, what needs to be noted as well is the reality that any law is the result of what a majority of office holders decide at a particular time in the life of their state, city or national government. Our legislature voted to enact HB 87 earlier this year and forgot what history has taught us: Discrimination was wrong in the 1960's ,and it is wrong in 2011. HB 87 is discrimination at its purest and should be abolished.

One of the persons quoted in the article said we must find the "good, compassionate middle ground." May our legislators find that area soon, leaving their discrimination outside when they propose any legislation.
