Prep track: Riverside wins state

Behind Ewin Holyfield’s four first-place finishes, the Riverside Military Academy track team was crowned the Georgia Independent Schools Association’s state champions in track and field on Saturday.

Eleven of the 14 members of the Eagles track team earned a combined total of 111 points, 10 points more than second place First Presbyterian Day School.

With a jump measuring 42 feet, 6 inches, Holyfield placed first in the triple jump to go along with his first-place finishes in the 200-meter dash (22.35 seconds).

Holyfield, along with Tersoo Uhaa, Conner Cuevas and Sebastian Mims, placed first in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.41 seconds.

Uhaa also took home first in the discuss with a throw of 150-7 and second in the shot put with a throw of 45-7.

Brad Baker, Dubem Anachebe and Drew Mills teamed up with Holyfield to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:32.87.

In the 400-meter, Anachebe set a new school record with a time of 49.45, breaking John Carnegis’ record of 49.7 that was set in 1970. Mills also finished third in the long jump.

With a jump of 39-6, Adrian Quinones finished in third place for Riverside Military in the triple jump.
