Doc Johnson, the Musselwhite Family, Grey Beard and Alex Thomlinson & Friends will delight audiences again this weekend.

The Mountain Music Medicine Show takes the stage in Dahlonega. The live radio show features some of the best talent in the Northeast Georgia mountains and is fun for the entire family.

Soaring harmony and the snappy sound of banjos and fiddles are among the highlights of the Mountain Music and Medicine Show, as are the humor of host, Doc Johnson, and the cast of characters who tell the stories of the
Lumpkin County area through legend and lore.

The setting is the mining town Dahlonega from Gold Rush days of the early 1800s to the early 1950s.

Johnson's traveling Miracle Medicine Show has come to town and set up on the square in front of Nix's Store, the hub of local commerce and social center of the area.

Doc brings musical acts with him as well as his own brand of humor while he exhorts folks to buy his "Wizard Water" elixir for improving their lives.

The scene occasionally shifts to a street scene with short skits where local people comment on the goings on of the day, mixing history, culture and humor in the unique Southern Appalachian style of the time period.

Presented live on stage at the Historic Holly Theatre in Dahlonega and recorded for broadcast on GPB, the Mountain Music and Medicine Show is three-time winner of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters award for best locally-produced live radio show in the state.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday. All tickets are $15 each and are available online and 706-864-3759.
