Two charged with drug possession

POSTED: May 5, 2008 5:00 a.m.

A Gainesville man faces charges of possessing nine different drugs, including more than 400 tablets of a cold reliever that can be used to produce methamphetamine, according to authorities.

Perry Allan Webb, 49, was arrested following a search Wednesday of his home in the 1800 block of Thompson Bridge Road, authorities said Thursday.

Lt. Scott Ware said Webb was found with several separate packages of methamphetamine, as well as four sets of scales and packaging materials.

Webb also had less than an ounce of marijuana, and unspecified quantities of the prescription drugs Darvocet, hydrocodone, Soma, Alprazolam, methadone, Flexeril, Celexa and 420 Sudafed tablets.

Webb was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of other prescription drugs without a prescription, as well as possession of 300 or more ephedrine tablets.

Most stores now have controls on the number of ephedrine tablets that can be purchased at one time because it is a main ingredient in the production of methamphetamine. Also at the home, Mary Poteat, 44, was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
