Commissioner Mack honored by women’s group

POSTED: May 5, 2008 5:00 a.m.

The local chapter of the American Business Women’s Association honored Hall County Commissioner Deborah Mack as 2008 Woman of the Year on Wednesday.

About 250 members and guests of the organization’s Lake Lanier Charter Chapter attended a luncheon at the Georgia Mountains Center to honor Mack for her lifelong commitment to her community and career.

Mack was elected as District 4 commissioner in 2002, and continues to serve on the board.

She is now retired from her 31-year career with the Georgia Department of Labor, but continues to champion customer service within county government, as well as local health care organizations and family and children services.

While on the commission, Mack has served on the Parks and Leisure Services Board, the Georgia Mountains Community Services Board and the court system’s Mental Health Advisory Board.

She played an integral role in securing a more than $1 million housing grant for the Black and Cooley drive area.
