Marty Raybon headlines June Bluegrass Festival

POSTED: May 26, 2011 12:20 a.m.

Put on your dancing shoes North Georgia. Grammy Award-winning singer and song writer Marty Raybon will highlight the second annual Piedmont College Bluegrass Festival June 4 at the Arrendale Amphitheater on the campus in Demorest.

Raybon is one of nine soloists and groups that will take the stage beginning at 11 a.m. during the daylong celebration of bluegrass, country and old-time music.

One of the original members of the band "Shenandoah," which produced 26 Billboard hits, Raybon began a solo career in 1995 and has recorded eight Billboard hits, including 2010's "The Heat is On." No less an authority than Gary LeVox, lead singer with "Rascal Flatts," has praised Raybon as "the greatest singer on the planet to this day!"

Piedmont theatre professor Henry "Doc" Johnson of the Mountain Music & Medicine Show will emcee the day's events.

"The first Piedmont Bluegrass Festival last year was a great success, and this year we are incredibly happy to welcome a new slate of performers," said festival organizer Natalie Crawford.

Featured performers will include Curtis Blackwell & The Dixie Bluegrass Boys, Shoal Creek, Bill Long, John Oliver & Carmel Ridge, Nancy Creek, Mountain Hoodoo, The Foxfire Boys and Tomorrow's Yesterday.

Admission to the all-day event is $15, with children under age 5 admitted free. Piedmont students, faculty and staff are also admitted free. For more information, visit online.

The Arrendale Amphitheater is adjacent to the Swanson Center for Performing Arts and Communications and features open-air stadium seating with plenty of room to bring your favorite folding chair or cushions and cooler.

No alcoholic beverages are allowed, and concessions will be available.
