Get ready for a night of music and fun under the stars as local musicians rock out for a good cause.

Challenged Child and Friends will be holding the annual "Rock in the Spring" concert on Saturday at the Brenau University Amphitheatre.

The 6 p.m. outdoor event includes a silent and live auction in addition to featuring the bands Midlife Crisis and Tennant Slack. Midlife Crisis is a group of local musicians who have taken the cause of the annual fundraiser and ran with it. According to Lee Highsmith, director of development and marketing for Challenged Child and Friends, the group has been performing at the event since its inception in 2004.

"Midlife Crisis has been there (since) the beginning. They’re a local band with a heart for what we’re doing here," Highsmith said.

Challenged Child and Friends is a nonprofit organization that specializes in providing high quality educational, therapeutic, nursing and family support services to children with disabilities in an integrated environment, according to the organization’s website.

According to Highsmith, CCF served 393 children from 14 counties last year. The organization is hoping for a good community showing to help raise funds and continue the hard work.

Highsmith expects a good turnout, given that the last few years have seen large crowds. "We’re expecting about 600 folks to come out. Last year was about the same with about 600 people showing up," Highsmith said.

"It’s a beautiful night of music under the stars. If you enjoy the concerts at Chastain, you’ll love this," Highsmith said.

"While you’re out having a good time, you’re helping to support some great kids in your own backyard."

Tickets can be purchased online at www.challengedchild.org/fm/events/detail/id/12/ in advance, and can be purchased the day of the event at the amphitheater. Additionally, tables can be reserved online.

Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, a picnic dinner and their own beverages. Catered food can be pre-ordered from Turnstile Deli by calling 770-534-0102.
