Your Views: Overtaxing successful people won’t make our society better

POSTED: April 22, 2011 9:00 p.m.

Joan King's philosophy of robbing the rich is an example of what's wrong with America. The self-made rich are the thought leaders and producers who built this country. Ms. King's example of Willie Sutton says it all: raising taxes on the rich is robbery.

The money they earn is theirs. They earned it and they should be able to keep it. Tax them unfairly and they will leave the country. And if the thinkers and producers leave, who will solve America's problems? The poor? The middle class? The government?

Instead of demonizing the savviest people in society and stealing their money, how about thanking them for their massive contributions and encouraging them to keep producing? Is it really smart to bite the hand that feeds you?
