Habersham theater to perform ‘Cotton Patch Gospel’

POSTED: April 21, 2011 12:30 a.m.

Habersham Community Theatre will present "Cotton Patch Gospel" through May 1.

The tale offers the story of Jesus set in a small town in the South, which is Gainesville in this performance.

"We felt this was a perfect time to produce Cotton Patch Gospel with the tie-in to the death and resurrection of Jesus," HCT President Alta Moseley said.

Te production features a live bluegrass band and music written by Harry Chapin. Chapin's collaboration with Atlanta's Tom Key on "Cotton Patch Gospel" was the last thing he composed before his untimely death.

Chapin is known for his songs, "Cats in the Cradle" and "Taxi" and is remembered by a generation of music fans as one of America's greatest musical storytellers.

"We are fortunate to have a very strong cast for this production from Habersham, White, Stevens and Hall counties," Moseley said. "But even more incredible is the wonderful live band. We were lucky enough to interest some of the most talented musicians in our area, and people who come to see Cotton Patch will be hearing from Billy Busic, Randy Jackson, Jennie Inglis, Dede Vogt and Steve Welsch as they fill all our ears with the ‘jubilation' of the Gospel."

Tickets are $16 for adults, $11 for children and full-time students. Shows are set for 7:30 p.m. today-Sunday and April 28-May 1, with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees.

You can order tickets by calling 706-839-1315 or visiting the website.
