Your Views: Adopt a child to stop cycle of foster care

POSTED: April 14, 2011 1:47 p.m.

Brandon Givens opinion column this morning was so to the point. We have children in this state who are without parents. If you think being raised in foster care is the same thing as having a family let me quote one child I have adopted. "Foster care means being a forever guest, knowing that at any time, for any reason, you can be asked to leave or be removed to another place."

That is not the same as a family for life. A family is one who supports your dreams and nightmares as well as takes care of food and shelter. A family is not just where you go for the holidays but is also where, when grown and working and on your own, you come "home" to see those who love you. No matter what.

Brandon put it beautifully. Children need permanent families as much or more than babies do and babies grow into children.

I commend Brandon for giving voice to the voiceless.
