POSTED: March 31, 2011 12:20 a.m.

Best-selling author Lauretta Hannon will be the guest speaker for next week's Northeast Georgia Writers conference.

Hannon is the author of, "The Cracker Queen: A Memoir of a Jagged, Joyful Life." She will be sharing memoir-writing tips with attendees.

The conference is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Peach State Bank, 325 Washington St., Gainesville.

The writer's group held its first meeting in 1973 at what was then Brenau College. Members meet monthly with the goal of improving their writing skills. The group also hosts an annual competition and regular conferences.

This month's conference is open to the public, but pre-registration is required. The cost is $25 for nonmembers.

If you are interested in attending, you must mail in your payment a week before the event, as registration is not available at the door.
