Your Views: State should fund trauma centers without new tax

POSTED: October 16, 2010 1:00 a.m.

I plan to vote no on the constitutional amendment to fund new trauma centers by adding a $10 tax onto each automobile each year.

This is simply not the time to add $80 million to Georgians' tax burden.

Adding trauma centers is certainly something that the Georgia legislature should consider. Maybe it will find a way to help the communities that are not close to a trauma center develop their own without taxing the communities that already have them.

There is also a concern about adding another bureaucracy with its hands in the taxpayers' pockets to the tune of $80 million a year with no direct oversight by elected officials.
